Welcome
Katie Tunn is a young artist working with a style she calls 'conceptual figurative' or 'conceptual realism' -A mix of traditional painting meeting conceptual theory. She completed a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design and has now set up a studio in Surrey where she lives and works.
Katie's most recent work revolves around shark conservation, something that is close to the artist's heart. The Fin Series features the beauty of the animals combined threat of extinction through finning for shark fin soup. It currently consists of three paintings; a main piece that features concentric circles that follow the process of finning plus two supporting works that focus on the aesthetics of the shark.
For more information about these please visit the Fin album in the Gallery section.
Before this, Katie completed a series of six paintings called The Beautiful Boy. They explore the aesthetics of the male nude and how we react to these images as a society. More information about this project, including an artist statement, can be found in the gallery section.
Katie also works to commission and has completed many portraits, a number of which have been recognised . A small selection of these can be found in the 'Portrait' section of the online gallery.
Whether a concept-based project or commissioned piece, each painting has a distinctive aesthetic quality based on classical representation combined with contemporary styling. This combination means that these works sit as easily next to antique oils as they do to graphic urban pieces.
